Description : The Gull-billed Tern is a pale pearl-grey and white water bird with a stout black bill and grey shallowly forked tail (adult bird length approximately 38 cm, wing 32 cm, bill 3.7 cm, tarsus 3.5 cm, tail: 8.5 cm, outer 13 cm, depth of fork 3.9 cm). In the breeding season, it looks pale pearl-grey from above and white from below. Its irises are black-brown, It feeds on insects, crustaceans, small fish and amphibians. They forms breeding colonies in various habitats such as lakes, marshes, and coastal areas, including bays and earthen levees. It chooses to nest on the ground, creating a shallow depression in the soil. Within this scrape, the tern lays a clutch of two to five eggs.
